Post 10: Evaluation of skills developed

During this piece of work I have learnt how to capture footage for a clip making sure it is at its best quality. I have also learnt how to use the editing program to cut down clips, adjust the sound levels, add in effects and add a title roll.
I have used these skills throughout the making of my preliminary task by shooting the footage and placing the camera in different places to get more than one type of shot. to give it more of a professional finnish.

I also became lot better at working in a group, working in this group gave me more self confidence and made me believe I can get more involved in many more part of the making as i now know i can do it.

Post 8: Production Report

In this post I will be describing how the shooting of our footage finalized; I will also be explaining what problems we had during the filming and what made the production better.
During the whole process of making the clip we had to shoot our footage twice in total; due to the amount of noise and people in the background during the first recording. We also decided to re-take the footage as the location we were firstly situated in did not look at all like a doctor’s surgery as the walls were tacky and covered in whiteboard marker and other materials. The props we used during the first shooting again did not meet our standard of how we thought the room would look and portray a doctor’s surgery; they were bland and made the desk look very empty.
We decided to shot the second piece in the new rooms that have been built off of the canteen (extended schools). This gave us a cleaner and newly decorated establishment; it also allowed us to borrow leaflets from the larger room to put on the doctors table. The filming was also improved as we were able to take many different shot from all angles. This gave us a wide range of footage to choose from to use in our production.
In think there are areas for improvement in the footage as we could have taken shots from more angles and a better establishing shot. I think the acting could also be improved as in some parts there are signs of laughter.
Due to the footage taken there are minimal edits that had to be worked on. These were the ending was to short in comparison to the non-diegetic music we had used over the top.

Post 7: Additional Pre-production Documentation

Location Reccee
The Location Reccee is where we took pictures of our location and it is a set of images that are put together to give an idea of what the location looks like. We have written about the lighting in the room and saying what changes could be made to make the room more practical and how we are going to make it look like what it is suposed to be, in our case it is set in a doctors surgery and we have said what we are going to do to change it.
Cast and Prop List
We have done a cast and prop list to show what props we are going to use while filming. We said that we will use things such as medical posters, a computer screen etc. All of these props will help to set the scene of the doctors surgery.

Risk Assesment
In the risk assesment we have identified the hazzards of the location. All of theproblems we found we had to find ways to sort them out to try and make the location safer for when we film. The hazzards could cause an injury while filming. We put all of these things into a table and said how we can improve and make the room safer.

Mise- en- scene

Mise- en- scene means all of the different elements that help work together to make a film.
·         Set Design/ Location

For our sequence our room will have a lot of room around it and will have the atmosphere of a doctors surgery. Along one side of the room it has a number of windows to make the room light; it has a dark carpet and one door.

·         Lighting

In our location it has a number of windows along the side of the room which provides a lot of natural light which makes the room light. There are also a number of strip lights on the ceiling which will also give more light.

·         Character Movement

The first shot is of one of the doctors sitting at the desk on the phone and the second shot shows one of the doctors entering the room and walking over to the desk and then sits down, it films the two doctors talking to each other
using shot reverse shot and then the same doctors walks back out of the room.

·         Props
For our opening sequence we needed to use props that will make our room look like a doctors surgery, we used medical body posters to put on the walls instead of having nothing on them. We had a desk with a compter screen on it and a notepad on the table, also with a bottle of water by the side of it. We have used these posters to give the effect of the doctors surgery.
  • Costume
For the opening sequence we have not made the two doctors look like typical doctors such as a white coat, we have them in casual/ smart clothes to make them look professional. We have not put them in the typical doctors outfit because we wanted to make the shot be interesting and for the audience to question who they were.
  • Hair/ Make-up
The hair and make-up for the opening sequence will have a smart and professional look, the hair of both doctors will be done nicely and they will not have too much make-up on so they look like professional doctors and not too over the top

Post 5: Jump Cuts, Over-the-Shoulder Shots, Cutaways and Point of View Shots

Jump Cut
A jump cut is a cut in film editing in which two sequential shots of the same subject are taken from camera positions that vary only slightly. This type of edit causes the subject of the shots to appear to "jump" position in a discontinuous way.

Over-the-Shoulder Shots
An over the shoulder shot is a shot of someone or something taken over the shoulder of another person. The back of the shoulder and head of this person is used to frame the image of whatever (or whomever) the camera is pointing toward. This type of shot is very common when two characters are having a discussion and will usually follow an establishing shot which helps the audience place the characters in their setting.

Cutaways
A cutaway is the interruption of a continuously filmed action by inserting a view of something else. It is usually, although not always, followed by a cut back to the first shot, when the cutaway avoids a jump cut.

Point of View Shot
A point of view shot is a short film scene that shows what a character is looking at. It is usually established by being positioned between a shot of a character looking at something, and a shot showing the character's reaction.

Post 1

We have been set the task of making a short movie, before this movie is to be shot we need to plan out how it is to be made, what will be included in the movie, where it will be filmed, what will it be filmed with, the script and the storyboard of how each part should look after filming.
